Most agents who've been sitting with a career decision for months aren't actually missing information. They've read the comparisons, talked to friends in the business, and run the same argument in their head more times than they can count. The information stopped being the problem a long time ago.

What's usually happening is a well-documented pattern: analysis paralysis. The more time we spend deliberating on a decision that feels big and irreversible, the more new "what ifs" the brain generates to keep protecting itself from a wrong choice. It's not indecisiveness — it's a normal instinct applied to a decision it wasn't really built for. Career moves don't have a single correct answer. They have tradeoffs, and tradeoffs don't resolve through more research.

Research on decision fatigue points to a consistent fix: not more data, but a forcing function. A deadline removes the option to keep circling, which is often the only thing keeping a decision open in the first place. In practice, that means separating the parts of a transition that are genuinely a "yes or no" question from the parts that are purely logistical — wrapping up current listings, a conversation with a broker, giving notice on a timeline. None of that requires resolving whether. It only requires knowing when.

Momentum works in a career the same way it does anywhere else: it's easier to build while something is already moving than to restart from a full stop. Agents who've been through this kind of transition tend to describe the "before" the same way — not regret about leaving, but time spent in limbo they can't get back.

If you're in the middle of a decision like this, the more useful question usually isn't "have I considered everything?" It's "what would it actually take to close this out — and by when?"
